What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a healthcare discipline firmly based from science. Although mainly focusing on the relationship between the skeletal and nervous systems, it is concerned with the care of the entire body. Chiropractors use a range of methods to assess and diagnose the state of your health.

This is carried out after taking a thorough history of your health. Once this is done a comprehensive neurological and orthopaedic assessment is conducted which may include the use of imaging such as x-rays.

Particular attention is paid to the neuro-musculo-skeletal system (nerves, muscles, bones and joints) and treatment consists of joint and soft tissue manipulation, and gentle adjustments.

With over 60,000 chiropractors worldwide, did you know that after medicine and dentistry, chiropractic is the third largest healthcare profession in the world! As a profession chiropractic advocates the role of prevention, and health, helping to ensure that minor problems do not become major ones.

How does chiropractic work?

Chiropractic recognises that your body has a powerful innate ability to  heal. The healing process is organised and coordinated by your nervous system:  This is made up of the brain and spinal cord, together with all the nerves that connect the spinal cord to every single cell in your body.

N.B. Did you know that inside your brain are approximately 100,000 miles of blood vessels!

Our body’s encounter problems all the time, which can arise in three simplified, generalized catagories.

We call them the 3 T’s.

Trauma – (injuries, falls, knocks, and bumps)

Toxins – (poor diet, smoking, alcohol)

Thoughts – (stress)

Any of the above can cause your nervous system to become compromised;

When this happens this can cause a malfunctioning in the bony system that protects your brain and spinal cord.

If the normal movement in your skull, spinal column or pelvis is disrupted, this can cause interference with the associated nervous system structures, which in turn can affect any part of your body, preventing you from feeling and functioning at its optimum level.
